Late Georgian Derby Porcelain Cabinet Bowl With Titled Landscapes, C.1800

An English porcelain cabinet bowl produced by the Derby Porcelain Factory during the late Georgian period, circa 1795–1810. The bowl has a wide, low profile and was intended for cabinet display. The exterior is finished with a deep cobalt-blue ground and richly decorated with heavy hand-applied gilding arranged in scrolling foliate cartouches.
 
Two oval painted scenes titled “Near Wirksworth, Derbyshire” and “Near Florence” are set within the cartouches, reflecting the popularity of Grand Tour imagery among educated collectors at the end of the 18th century.
 
The interior remains plain white, with a gilt geometric border to the rim. The underside bears a factory mark used by Derby in this period, and the titles are written in a contemporary calligraphic hand.
