Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Designed in the seventeenth century by James Gregory, the Gregorian telescope is a reflecting instrument that uses two concave mirrors to produce an upright image suitable for both terrestrial and astronomical viewing.

During the Georgian era, telescope bodies and mounting tripods were primarily crafted from cast and lacquered brass, with optical systems utilising speculum metal mirrors and ground glass lenses.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-engraved maker signatures on the backplate or barrel, original speculum metal optics, hand-threaded screws, and a brass folding tripod base.

Position the instrument on an office desk, library bookshelf, or deep window sill to serve as a focal point within a traditional or eclectic interior scheme.

Keep the brass dry to prevent tarnish and oxidisation, avoid aggressive chemical polishes that strip protective lacquers, and gently clear dust from optical components using an air blower or soft brush.
