Edwardian serving trays, produced during the reign of King Edward VII (1901-1910), often feature a blend of practicality and refined elegance, frequently combining rich timbers like oak with silver-plated mounts and galleries.

These pieces typically utilised solid or veneered quartersawn oak for the base, fitted with silver-plated brass or copper galleries and spindles, complemented by turned wooden handles.

Authentic pieces generally display genuine age-related patination on the silver plate, traditional construction methods such as screw-fastened galleries beneath the base, and hallmarks or makers marks appropriate to the period.

An antique tray can be utilised as a functional centrepiece on a coffee table or sideboard, styled with modern glassware, decanters, or seasonal botanicals to create a contrast between old and new.

Clean the silver plate gently with a specialised non-abrasive silver polish, and maintain the wood using microcrystalline wax, avoiding excessive moisture and direct sunlight to preserve the finish.
