Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Florentine frames from the Renaissance to the Baroque periods are characterised by intricate, hand-carved foliage, scrollwork, and rich gesso applications finished with gold leaf.

These frames are typically constructed from softwoods such as lime or pine, coated in layers of gesso, hand-carved, and water-gilded or oil-gilded with genuine gold leaf.

Authenticity is identified by the presence of hand-tooling marks, ageing in the gesso layer such as fine craquelure, subtle oxidisation of the gold leaf, and the weight and grain of old timber visible from the reverse.

Contrast the ornate, metallic warmth of the frame against minimalist walls, or pair it with contemporary abstract art to create a striking focal point through historical juxtaposition.

Dust gently with a dry, ultra-soft artists brush. Avoid all water, liquid cleaning agents, and chemical solvents, as moisture can lift the delicate gesso and gold leaf layers.
