This Georgian side table takes the form of an eighteenth-century red walnut and mahogany chest fitted with two frieze drawers and finished in a dark brown tone. Brass swan-neck handles with shaped backplates accent each drawer, while the top has a neat moulded edge above a plain frieze. The piece is supported on four cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. It measures 74.5 cm high, 94 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. Suitable for practical everyday placement in a hallway or landing, this table provides a surface for keys and correspondence, with storage in the two lower compartments. The timber displays the rich grain typical of English country house furniture from the period. Placed beside an entrance or within a reception room, the traditional design brings functional surface space and period character to an interior.

George II side tables, crafted during the reign of King George II from 1727 to 1760, are defined by their transition from early 18th-century Baroque forms to refined mid-Georgian proportions. They frequently feature cabriole legs, pad feet, and dark polished mahogany surfaces.

Mahogany became the predominant timber during the George II era due to its durability and rich grain, often paired with oak or pine for internal drawer linings and cast brass for handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn drawer construction, hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass backplates, and natural surface wear consistent with age.

A George II side table functions effectively as an entryway console or hall table when paired with modern artwork, simple glass ceramics, or a contemporary table lamp.

Preserve mahogany surfaces by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and applying clear beeswax sparingly once or twice a year, while keeping the piece away from direct heat sources.
