The Green Man is a sculptural motif consisting of a human face surrounded by or made from leaves and vines, symbolising rebirth and the cycle of growth, frequently incorporated into Jacobean and medieval woodwork.

These pieces were typically hand-carved from solid English oak using gouges and chisels, often featuring pegged joinery or mounted as decorative appliques on larger pieces of case furniture or architectural timberwork.

Authenticity is determined by examining the tool marks, timber shrinkage, oxidation patterns, and density of the mature English oak, alongside historical patination acquired over centuries of exposure.

They can be mounted on a neutral wall as sculptural artwork, displayed on custom stands, or integrated into minimalist shelving units to create a focal point of historical texture.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels between 40-60 percent, avoiding direct sunlight, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the dry, historic wood surface.
