Circa 1890. Large trade label to verso reads: E Allen & Co No 20 Stonegate York.

Allen of York, a highly respected taxidermist, capable of producing some outstanding work. This being an exceptional example, and illustrates perfectly just how good those Victorian taxidermists could be. Its cases like this that have kept me so enthralled for so many years.
