Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE REGENCY ERA:
Crisp reeding on tapering turned legs: cabinet making of the Regency period.
Turned ring collars and square corner blocks: typical Gillows design details.
Brass cup castors with age-darkened patination: period fittings.
Deep mellow colour in the mahogany: many years of waxing.
Fossil inclusions and surface dulling on the marble: old cut stone.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency period console table in the manner of Gillows is fashioned from dark brown mahogany with a black veined marble top and brass castors. The design includes a plain frieze and slender reeded turned legs that stand on small castors. The dark marble top displays faint white veining across the surface, while the wooden frame shows a deep polished dark brown timber finish with subtle turned details near the feet. Measuring 92 cm high, 91 cm wide and 35 cm deep, the table provides a compact surface suitable for a narrow hallway, landing, or beside the front door in a modern interior. Placed against a wall in a living room, hallway or entryway, it offers a functional surface for displaying decorative items, holding everyday accessories, or supporting a table lamp, combining classic Regency style with practical everyday utility.

FAQs

Originating in early nineteenth-century Britain, Regency console tables were designed to stand against walls, featuring classical proportions, fine timbers such as mahogany, and grey or black marble tops.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense mahogany or rosewood frameworks, topped with hand-cut marble slabs, and integrated turned or fluted legs fitted with brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature classical reeding, fluted turned legs, original brass castors, hand-planed joinery beneath the frieze, and natural age-related patination on timber surfaces.

Position the table in an entryway or hallway beneath a framed mirror, pairing the dark mahogany and marble finish with contemporary brass lighting or minimalist ceramic accents.

Clean timber components using microfibre cloths and high-grade beeswax polish, while protecting the marble surface from acidic substances by dusting with a soft, damp cloth.
