FAQs

Antique tapestries were traditionally hand-woven or needleworked across Europe as both decorative wall insulation and status symbols, often depicting pastoral landscapes, mythological scenes, or historical events.

They are typically crafted from hand-dyed wool, silk, or linen threads, worked using needlepoint, petit point, or warp-and-weft weaving techniques on a loom or canvas backing.

Authentication involves examining fibre degradation, hand-spun yarn irregularities, natural vegetable dye fading patterns, and the type of backing or framing used, which often aligns with specific centuries.

Hanging a historic textile provides acoustic softening and rich texture, contrasting effectively against minimalist white walls or anchoring a traditional study alongside wood panelling.

Preservation requires keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent dye fading, avoiding high humidity, and refraining from hanging them near heat sources to protect fragile fibres.
