A Fine 18th Century English Needlework Picture

Circa 1730-1750
 
Worked in silk and wool in tent stitch with an urn of flowers, including carnations, peonies, poppies and anemones, on a stepped ledge draped with a fringed textile, set against a yellow ground. The layout is closely related to the engravings made by Henry Fletcher, after paintings by Pieter Casteels III, for the catalogue ‘Twelve Months of Flowers’ by the horticulturalist Robert Furber, published in 1730.
