This nineteenth-century Aesthetic Movement card table originates from the workshop of Lamb of Manchester, dating to approximately 1875. The piece is constructed from ebonised wood and amboyna with parcel gilding, presenting a black and gold colour scheme with warm wood-grained turned sections and a green baize top. Design details include fluted columns, turned stretchers, amboyna banding, and circular motifs on the frieze and supports, standing on castors. The original surface shows minor isolated marks to the frame, a worn baize covering, and a top that is very slightly bowed in the middle. The table measures 75 cm high, 92 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. It functions effectively as a compact games table or writing surface in a study, library, or empty corner of a traditional home.

Popularised during the late 19th century Aesthetic Movement, these tables feature dark-stained woods accented with parcel gilding, exotic wood inlays, and green or red felt playing surfaces.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised ebonised timber highlighted with amboyna or walnut burr veneers, fine gilding, wool baize, and brass or ceramic castors.

Authentic examples display turned fluted columns, incised gilt decoration, high-quality wood veneers, and occasional maker stamps or plaques from recognised workshops.

These versatile fold-top tables serve effectively as occasional side tables, console tables in entryways, or decorative accents in living areas.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes or water, which can dissolve gilding and damage delicate ebonised finishes.
