Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III sofa table is a slender, rectangular table originating in late 18th-century Britain, designed to sit behind a sofa or against a wall. Characterised by two drop-leaf ends and shallow frieze drawers, it served as a surface for writing, reading, or serving tea.

Dense mahogany was the primary timber, frequently finished with satinwood or rosewood crossbanding and boxwood stringing. Secondary woods typically included oak or pine for drawer linings, complemented by brass castors and drawer handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original brass castors mounted on splayed legs, and twin pedestal or end-frame supports. Look for natural patination, hand-planed undersides, and period-correct timber figure.

Position the table directly behind a central sofa, along a hallway wall as a console, or beneath a window as a compact desk. Pair it with modern table lamps, ceramic vessels, or framed art to create contrast between historic joinery and modern elements.

Keep the table away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight to prevent movement in the timber and fading of the finish. Apply beeswax polish sparingly along the grain and dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth.
