FAQs

Figural jardinieres and plant stands often incorporate mythological or exotic figures carved in wood, originating primarily in 19th-century European craftsmanship, particularly within Italian and Venetian workshops.

These items are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like walnut or fruitwood, featuring hand-carved figural supports, lacquered finishes, and sometimes gilt or polychrome accents.

Authentication relies on examining tool marks, wood shrinkage, type of lacquer or polish, historical wear patterns, and joinery techniques consistent with 19th-century or earlier European manufacturing.

They can be positioned as statement standalone pieces in entryways or living spaces, utilizing contrasting modern foliage to highlight the historical carved base.

Maintain them by dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and moisture, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood and preserve the lacquered finish.
