Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In late 19th-century interiors, carved wooden pedestals were used to elevate and display prized decorative items, including marble busts, bronze sculptures, classical urns, and exotic indoor plants.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, oak, or stained birch. The columns were shaped using wood-turning lathes, while ornamental elements like acanthus leaves were carved by hand before receiving dark stains and french polish finishes.

Authentic pieces display subtle hand-tool marks within carved details, natural wood shrinkage along joints, and slight irregularities from age. Original finishes often show consistent patination and wear on contact areas such as the top surface and base.

An antique wooden pedestal works well placed in an empty corner, hallway entry, or window nook to introduce vertical interest. Designers frequently pair them with contemporary abstract sculptures, large art glass vessels, or cascading indoor foliage to create visual contrast.

Dust the detailed carvings regularly with a soft, dry brush to prevent dirt buildup in recessed areas. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the timber, and position the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement or splitting.
