Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

This Victorian sofa table reflects the William IV style, constructed from warm brown flame mahogany with a polished wood finish. The piece has a rectangular top with drop leaves on either side, supported by a central rectangular pedestal stem resting on four splayed legs with strung detail. Brass claw castors and decorative roundels complete the base, while the frieze incorporates drawers with visible grain patterns. The table shows light marks consistent with age on the top surface. Overall dimensions are 71 cm high, 150 cm wide when open, and 68.5 cm deep. In a modern home, this practical table finds a traditional placement directly behind a sofa in a living room or reception space, or functions as a compact side desk in a study. The drop leaves allow the surface area to adjust depending on immediate space requirements, while the drawers offer discreet storage for small household items. The rich timber tones blend naturally into both period and contemporary interior schemes.

FAQs

William IV period furniture, spanning 1830 to 1837, bridges the Regency and early Victorian eras, characterised by robust proportions, architectural carving, and high-quality wood veneers.

Mahogany, particularly flame mahogany veneers, was predominantly favoured, frequently accompanied by brass hardware, castors, and oak or pine drawer linings.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass hardware, natural timber shrinkage across structural underside panels, and uneven patination.

Position the piece directly behind a contemporary sofa or along a hallway wall, topped with modern ceramic vessels, books, or table lamps to create contrast.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
