During the Georgian period, wealthy households required specialized storage for expanding collections of silverware and cutlery, leading to the creation of compartmented trays and caddies designed for butler service.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid dense hardwoods like Cuban or Honduras mahogany, joined with hand-cut dovetails, and fitted with cast brass carrying handles.

Authentication relies on examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery, patination of the wood surface, and the appropriate style of cast brass hardware consistent with the late 18th century.

It can be placed on a console table or sideboard to display small curated objects, stationary, or as a functional valet tray for everyday accessories.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, occasionally treating the surface with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood and preserve the patina.
