Wedgwood “King Dragon” Lustre Bowl, Daisy Makeig-jones, C. 1915

For sale is an exquisite and highly collectible Wedgwood Lustre bowl in the “K’ang Hsi” shape, designed by the renowned Daisy Makeig-Jones between 1914 and 1920. This exceptional piece features the “King Dragon” motif and serves as a testament to the masterful ceramic craftsmanship of the early 20th century.

The bowl bears the Portland Vase mark on the underside, along with pattern number Z 4829, confirming its authenticity and rarity. The exterior is distinguished by a rich pale-stained ground with blue mottling, adorned with gilded dragons, a gilded rim, and a gilded base. The interior showcases an exquisite Mother-of-Pearl Lustre finish, with delicate pale staining and a central dragon design.

Daisy Makeig-Jones, a pioneering designer for Wedgwood, is best known for her Fairyland Lustre and Lustre series, which introduced an innovative combination of underglaze coloration, overglaze graining, iridescent effects, and intricate gilding.
