A rare 19th century M H Blanchard square pedestal plinth measuring 39cm square and 30cm tall by prestigious London maker with makers stamp to the lower left section.
Mark Henry Blanchard was an apprentice at the Coade Stone Factory in Lambeth in the firm''s latter years, probably when it was managed by Thomas John Croggon between c.1835-37. Blanchard soon after started his own business in Blackfriars Road, Lambeth about 1840 (probably working initially in plaster) and then appears to have acquired some of the Coade Factory''s moulds at auction in 1843.
Blanchard established a reputation at highest level of garden and architectural recreation stone work, using a unique Bath stone mixture, still found amongst some of the most desirable examples of such work, such as the V and A museum etc..
