Charlie Johnson Payne, Snaffles (British, 1884-1967)

India Christmas card (rare), circa 1929, signed ‘Snaffles’ in pencil, printed and hand coloured, heavily inscribed and signed further in pencil verso, in a later mount and a later ebonised frame.

In his later years, Snaffles turned his hand to Christmas and Greetings cards; some reminiscent of his earlier print subjects, all typically characterful, and with a certain charm.
