Antique Framed Architectural Plans, French, Industrial Lithograph Art, Victorian

19th century
Description

This is an antique framed architectural plan. A French, lithograph set of drawings from Constructions Modernes et Economiques, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.

Beautiful architectural illustrations presented in a tasteful framed arrangement

Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout

Plans mounted from the French title, released in multiple volumes at the end of the 19th century

Replete with great colour, industrial interest and French architectural chic

Each of the four page excerpts sit within a tasteful card border

Shows plans for a house with a floorplan, front and side elevations and details

Finished with gilt border embellishments upon a muted blue ground

Dressed to the rear with mounting wire for ease of hanging

This is a superb framed set of architectural plans, with an aesthetic merit beyond their original functional use. In period, architects used such plans for inspiration, and the volumes from which they came are scarce and celebrated. A treat for Francophiles or architects alike, delivered ready to display.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Architectural lithographs from nineteenth-century France are technical prints created using stone or zinc plates to illustrate building plans, elevations, and decorative details. They served as visual reference materials for architects, builders, and designers during the Victorian era.

These prints were produced using planographic printing techniques on rag paper, often enhanced with hand-coloured or printed tint washes. They were mounted onto stiff boards and framed under glass in wooden mouldings for display and protection.

Authentic period lithographs display crisp ink lines alongside slight variations in tone from manual printing processes, often accompanied by French technical text, plate numbers, or publication stamps. They typically feature natural age toning or paper grain consistent with nineteenth-century rag paper.

Framed technical drawings and elevation plans add geometric structure and historical depth when hung above sideboards, desks, or along hallways. They pair well with dark wood furniture, brass accents, and neutral colour schemes in traditional or modern settings.

Keep framed lithographs away from direct sunlight and areas of high humidity to prevent paper discolouration and warping. Clean the frame glass using a dry microfibre cloth and ensure acid-free mounting materials are used inside the frame.
