An English regional map of Brecknoc, dating from the early 17th century around 1607, attributes to Christopher Saxton and William Camden's Britannia. The cartography presents hand-coloured outlines, topographical details, and a decorative cartouche behind clear glass. A cream mount surrounds the paper atlas excerpt within a black ebonised wooden frame featuring gold trim mouldings. The piece shows a lightly time-worn order with a desirable aged patina, and hangs via wire attached to the rear. The dimensions measure 39 cm high, 44 cm wide, and 1.5 cm deep. Suitable for a gentleman's library or study, the framed map mounts easily above a sideboard or desk to bring historic character to an interior. The dual-sided design reveals Latin text through the paper on the reverse. Collectors of county cartography and Welsh history find appeal in the administrative borders, settlement details, and Latin print run. The wall art provides a focal point within traditional living spaces or offices.

Jacobean cartography from the early 1600s is marked by copper-plate engraving, latinised place names, decorative title cartouches, and strapwork embellishments. Maps from this period were typically produced for county atlases by cartographers such as Christopher Saxton, William Camden, and John Speed.

Maps of this era were printed using oil-based ink from etched or engraved copper plates onto hand-made rag paper with distinctive chain lines and watermarks. Outline highlighting and cartouches were frequently coloured by hand using water-based pigment washes.

Authentic prints feature a visible plate mark impression around the border, a central vertical fold line if originating from an atlas, and text printed on the reverse side. Inspecting the paper under magnification reveals rag fibres and laid lines rather than modern dot-matrix printing.

Framed cartographic prints are commonly styled above sideboards, mounted within gallery walls, or displayed in home offices and libraries. The combination of historical paper tones and structured frames adds textural warmth to both classic and modern interior schemes.

To prevent fading and foxing, framed maps should be hung away from direct sunlight and sources of fluctuating humidity. Utilizing UV-filtering glass and acid-free, archival mounting boards ensures the paper and pigments remain protected over time.
