This Irish Regency console or serving table dates from the 19th century and is made of dark brown mahogany with a rich polish and fine grain. The rectangular top has a moulded edge and a back gallery rail, sitting above a fluted frieze decorated with a central carved shell motif. The front features cabriole legs with detailed foliate and acanthus carving at the knee, ending in carved lion paw feet, while the rear uses simple turned legs. Measuring 104 cm high, 244 cm wide, and 66 cm deep, this large piece functions as a statement serving table or console in a spacious hallway, dining room, or living area.

Irish furniture from the 19th century is characterised by balanced proportions, deep decorative relief carvings such as acanthus leaves or scallop shells, and dense dark mahogany timber.

These pieces were constructed from solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany using traditional joinery methods, including mortise and tenon joints and hand-carved support legs.

Authentic period tables display signs of hand-planing on unseen surfaces, original wood shrinkage along the grain, and regional carving details like stylized paw feet or central mask aprons.

Position the table in an entrance hallway or dining area, contrasting the carved dark wood against neutral walls and pairing it with contemporary artwork or architectural lamps above.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a pure beeswax polish once annually, avoiding direct heat sources and sunlight exposure.
