Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In traditional Chinese architecture, wooden corbels and brackets (often part of dougong structural systems) were designed to support heavy overhanging roof eaves and transfer loads to vertical columns without requiring metal fasteners. Beyond their structural role, these elements were heavily carved with symbolic motifs to reflect the status of the building and its owners.

Traditional Chinese architectural carvings were typically crafted from durable indigenous hardwoods such as camphor, elm, or cypress. Artisans used complex mortise and tenon joinery along with multi-layered high-relief carving techniques to execute intricate figural and floral patterns.

Authentic period pieces show natural surface wear, hand-chiselled tool marks, and appropriate age-related shrinkage along the wood grain. Structural elements often feature integral mortise or tenon projections used to interlock the piece into larger timber framing.

Architectural corbels can be mounted as sculptural wall art, positioned to frame a doorway or alcove, or fitted with discreet glass shelves to serve as decorative wall brackets in contemporary spaces.

Keep carved timber items in a temperature-controlled environment away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking. Dust regularly using a soft dry brush, and avoid applying water or chemical cleaners that could strip historic patination.
