Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Butlers trays originated in the 18th century as portable serving trays used by domestic staff to transport food and drink from the kitchen to entertaining rooms, supported by a folding X-frame stand for convenience and compact storage.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring dovetail joints on the tray corners and pegged or hinged folding stands designed for stability and portability.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, patina, hand-cut joinery, and tool marks. Older pieces exhibit natural wear patterns, shrinkage cracks in the wood, and traditional fasteners rather than modern machine-made screws.

This versatile piece functions effectively as an occasional side table, a bar cart surface for glassware and decanters, or a display stand for books and decorative objects in a living room or study.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying and cracking. Apply natural beeswax periodically to nourish the surface and preserve the historic finish without using silicone-based polishes.
