Gilt and Gesso has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The lined and weighted wall hanging displays influences of the Orient whilst having a central male head and shoulders figure in 17th century, possibly Venetian battle helmet but opinions also include late Ottoman.
A very fine quality 18th century, perhaps earlier wall hanging in mostly very good and original condition, no evidence of repair and retaining a generally even colour, the red natural dye often suffers fading, there is evidence in areas of wear and some loss which doesn’t undermine the appeal, authenticity or character.
