Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian pedestal stands as a striking example of nineteenth-century decorative stonework, designed to elevate statues, busts, or floral displays in a formal interior. Carved from dark green serpentine marble, the column presents a polished finish with natural mottled variations across the stone surface. The design incorporates a moulded circular capital at the apex, surmounting a central shaft decorated with a deep spiral twist or fluted carving. Below the fluted column, the shaft transitions into a smooth lower section resting on a stepped octagonal plinth base. Practical details visible on the piece include minor chips and damage to the top rim alongside the visible natural veining inherent to the mineral composition of serpentine. Standing at a height of 110 cm, the pedestal has a substantial vertical presence suitable for placement in an empty corner, a grand hallway, or a traditional drawing room where it provides an architectural focal point.

FAQs

Victorian marble pedestals were decorative architectural supports designed to elevate classical busts, bronze sculptures, urns, or botanical displays in 19th-century interiors.

These pieces were typically carved from solid blocks of marble or alabaster, featuring turned columns, spiralled shafts, and weighted octagonal or stepped bases for stability.

Authentic period columns exhibit hand-carved detailing, hand-tooled construction marks beneath the base, natural veining variations, and minor surface wear consistent with age.

Position the pedestal in an entryway, bay window, or alcove to display a ceramic vase, modern sculpture, or trailing plant, adding height and structural structure to the room.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and clean spills promptly using warm water and a neutral pH stone cleaner, avoiding acidic chemicals that can etch the polished surface.
