Scottish Northern Light House Board Carved Roundel

19th century
Description

A 19th century Northern Light Houses carved wood 7 inch diameter roundel.

The roundel has the craved text of the motto of Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB): IN SALUTEM OMNIUM NORTHERN LIGHT HOUSES.

Diameter: 18 cm.

Provenance: Stevenson family, by descent.

The Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) is the lighthouse authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man. The NLB was formed by Act of Parliament in 1786 as the Commissioners of Northern Light Houses.

In Salutem Omnium is the motto of the Northern Lighthouse Board, meaning For the Safety of All.

The Commissioners of Northern Light Houses most famous engineer was Robert Stevenson, whose sons David, Alan, and Thomas followed their father into the profession. The Stevenson dynasty built the majority of the Northern lights, in some exceptionally challenging locations. Their lights were some of the engineering masterpieces of their time, notably those at Bell Rock, Skerryvore, and Muckle Flugga.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
