Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating as functional partitions to block drafts and create privacy in grand residences, multi-panel folding screens became highly decorative elements during the 18th century. Rococo revival designs feature elaborate scrolling motifs, gilded frames, and upholstered or hand-embroidered fabric sections.

These screens typically feature hand-carved hardwood frames finished with gold leaf gilding over a gesso base. Infill panels often combine woven cane mesh on lower sections with textile panels such as embroidered silk, brocade, or tapestry above.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery, visible wear or red bole under layers on gilded surfaces, and traditional brass hinges. The reverse of the panels usually displays period-appropriate hand-stitching or historic upholstery tacking.

Giltwood screens are commonly positioned in the corner of a room to add visual height, placed behind a bed as an alternative headboard, or used in open-plan spaces to define separate functional zones.

Dust the gilded wood frame and cane panels with a dry, soft-bristled brush. Avoid liquid cleaners or solvents on gilt surfaces, and use a low-suction vacuum with a soft brush attachment for the textile sections.
