FAQs

The Georgian style encompasses furniture produced during the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, spanning from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the influence of prominent designers like Thomas Chippendale and Sheraton.

Cabinet makers of the Georgian period predominantly utilised imported Cuban mahogany for its dense grain and rich colour, often paired with secondary softwoods for drawer linings and incorporating cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit period joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails on drawer boxes, subtle surface oxidisation, original timber shrinkage characteristics, and traditional brass hardware affixed with hand-turned screws.

A Georgian side table can anchor a contemporary living space or hallway by contrasting its rich, dark wood tones against minimalist neutral walls, topped with a simple ceramic lamp or botanical arrangement to bridge traditional and modern aesthetics.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and clean it periodically using microfibre cloths and traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone-based polishes.
