This set of three Victorian decorative bowls comprises three white porcelain pedestal vessels with reticulated lattice rims, painted with green and gold details. Each piece stands on a circular stepped pedestal base with gilt highlighting, featuring an openwork interlaced geometric border around the upper edge. The largest bowl measures 36 cm wide, 24 cm high and 20 cm deep, creating an impressive display proportioned for prominent placement. Ideal for an English Country house interior, these vessels sit well upon a sideboard top as decorative table ornaments or serving pieces. The glazed white surfaces catch the light, while the painted green and gold interlacing highlights the intricate pierced openwork of the rims.

FAQs

A reticulated porcelain bowl features an openwork or pierced lattice design, created by painstakingly cutting away geometric or decorative sections of wet clay prior to the firing and glazing process.

Craftsmen hand-cut openings into the soft clay vessel using specialised tools before firing. The piece is then glazed and fired a second time, with gilding and enamel colours applied in subsequent detailed firings.

Authentic pieces display precise hand-cut openwork, crisp mold lines, and hand-applied gilding along the borders. Look for makers marks, impressed factory numbers, or painted pattern numbers on the underside of the base.

Compotes can be displayed as a symmetrical trio along a sideboard or mantlepiece, left empty to highlight the lattice work, or utilised as elegant fruit stands on a central dining table.

Dust gently using a soft brush to reach inside the lattice openings. Wash carefully by hand using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive cloths that could wear away delicate gilt or enamel detailing.
