FAQs

Taxidermy mounts gained significant popularity during the Victorian era, when natural history collection and hunting trophies became central components of domestic display in country houses and studies.

Traditional mounts typically utilise preserved animal pelts stretched over sculpted forms made from plaster, paper-mache, or wood wool, traditionally mounted onto carved wooden shields or plaques.

Authentic period pieces often show signs of age in the materials used, such as hand-carved wooden backing plaques, traditional stitching, period taxidermy techniques, and natural wear consistent with historical preservation.

In modern spaces, mounting a single specimen against a neutral or dark-painted wall creates a focal point, pairing well with natural textures like leather, wool, and exposed stone.

Preservation requires keeping the mount away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent fading and fur degradation, alongside regular gentle dusting with a soft brush.
