This 18th-century Italian Rococo side table belongs to the occasional tables category and is executed in walnut, parquetry, olive wood, and burr walnut in a warm brown tone. It has been converted from a concertina card table into a single-drawer side table. The piece exhibits a geometric parquetry top, a shaped apron, and a single drawer fitted with a round wooden knob. It rests on four slender cabriole legs with curved outlines. Signs of age and past modification are visible in the configuration. The piece measures 75 cm high, 78 cm wide, and 72 cm deep. In a modern interior, this side table serves well as an end-of-a-sofa surface in a living room, drawing room, or hallway. Its compact proportions allow it to fit neatly beside seating furniture while providing a convenient platform for lamps, books, or decorative objects. The rich wood grain and traditional silhouette complement period or eclectic room schemes.

FAQs

Italian Rococo furniture from the 18th century is characterised by curvilinear forms, slender cabriole legs, asymmetrical frieze shaping, and rich decorative wood veneers such as walnut parquetry.

Craftsmen typically utilised local hardwoods such as walnut, fruitwood, and olive, applying hand-cut parquetry veneers over solid timber cores secured with hand-carved joinery and hand-cut dovetails.

Authentic period pieces exhibit evidence of hand-plane marks on unseen surfaces, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, historical timber shrinkage, and genuine age-related oxidisation.

An antique accent table functions effectively as an elevated bedside surface, an entryway accent, or positioned next to modern upholstered seating to introduce historical character through contrast.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry cloth, avoid placing the item near direct heat sources or strong sunlight, and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
