Fine Italian Sorrento Walnut Marquetry and Parquetry Occasional Table, Circa 1900

Description

An excellent quality Italian Sorrento occasional table, circa 1900, predominantly constructed in walnut and beautifully decorated with intricate marquetry and parquetry inlay.

The circular walnut top features a central ebonised roundel, finely inlaid in boxwood and contrasting timbers with a bird perched upon a flowering bough. This is surrounded by concentric bands of geometric parquetry, incorporating contrasting timbers and delicate stringing, with decorative crossbanding to the outer edge.

The top is supported by an elegantly turned central column, enriched with further inlaid decoration, and raised on a shaped tripod base with gracefully swept feet.

A particularly decorative example of Sorrento craftsmanship, displaying excellent colour and intricate inlaid detail throughout.
