This set of four nest of tables dates from the 1920 period in the Regency style. Constructed from mahogany timber, the tables display a warm brown colour with visible grain. Each piece features a rectangular top fitted with raised mouldings, slender turned spindle legs, and curved stretchers linking the uprights near the floor. The graduated nesting design allows the four tables to fit together neatly when not in use. The largest table measures 70 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. In a modern home, this quartetto set serves multiple practical functions as occasional furniture in a living room, study, or bedroom. The nesting arrangement provides extra surface space for drinks or reading materials by the end of a sofa and tucks away compactly when extra floor space is needed. The design complements both traditional and contemporary interiors.

FAQs

A quartetto nest of tables is a set of four small occasional tables of graduating sizes designed to slide neatly beneath one another. Popularised during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, they provide adaptable surface space while occupying a minimal footprint.

Traditional quartetto tables are primarily crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood, featuring thin reeded edge tops, slim turned spindle legs, and thin curved stretchers at the rear to allow the smaller tables to stack inside without obstruction.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut joinery, proportional graduating measurements, natural timber patination, and subtle wear marks on the inner stretchers where the smaller tables slide into place over time.

Quartetto tables can be kept nested alongside a sofa as a compact side table or pulled out individually across a seating area to serve drinks and books when entertaining guests.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the wood grain periodically. Keep timber furniture away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent shrinking or warping.
