Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Country dining table dates from 1860. The piece is made from pine with a distressed blue painted finish over an exposed timber undercoat, displaying visible surface wear and aged texture. It has a circular top above an apron with a drawer and four straight square legs. The table stands 80 cm high, 113 cm wide, and 113 cm deep. In a modern interior, this rustic farmhouse table serves as a casual dining surface in a kitchen or breakfast room. It works well as a central gathering point in a dining space, bringing character and colour to the room.

FAQs

French provincial painted dining tables originated in rural France, crafted by regional cabinetmakers adapting urban Parisian furniture trends using local timbers and utilitarian painted finishes.

These tables typically utilise native softwoods or hardwoods such as pine and oak, constructed with traditional mortise and tenon joints, wooden pegs, and layered oil or milk paint finishes.

Authentic pieces display natural wear patterns concentrated on high-contact areas, fine paint crazing, visible undercoats, and historical oxidisation around joinery rather than uniform artificial distressing.

Pair the table with modern minimalist chairs or contemporary lighting to create a balanced visual contrast between historic painted textures and clean architectural lines.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, keep away from direct heat sources or damp environments, and avoid harsh chemical cleaners to protect surviving paint layers.
