Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Art Deco centre table dates from 1930 and is constructed from walnut with walnut veneer in a warm brown colour. The circular top displays a diamond marquetry pattern with bookmatched veneer, set above four curved, swept legs and a square lower tier shelf with concave edges. The wood has an original polished finish showing natural grain variations across the surfaces. It stands 56 cm high, with a width and depth of 63.5 cm, providing a compact surface area for living spaces. Placed in a home today, this piece functions as a striking focal point in a hallway, foyer, or living room. The lower shelf offers practical space for displaying small decorative items or holding books, while the upper surface accommodates lamps or floral arrangements. Its geometric design elements integrate easily into both period and modern interiors, adding functional table space without occupying a large footprint.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture from this era is characterised by streamlined geometric shapes, prominent wood veneers, and symmetrical patterns. Designers frequently integrated functional elements like lower tiers alongside elegant, swept, or angular leg profiles.

Craftsmen utilised high-quality timber species such as walnut, mahogany, and maple, often applying decorative veneers like burl or quarter-sawn cuts. Techniques such as bookmatching were deployed to create mirrored, repeating grain motifs across surface tops.

Authentic period pieces typically demonstrate hand-cut or early machine joinery, thicker timber veneers than modern reproductions, and natural age-related oxidisation beneath the table top. Checking for period-appropriate construction on the underside also helps confirm age.

An Art Deco centre table serves as an effective focal point in an entryway, hallway, or living room corner. Modern designers often pair these warm timber pieces with contemporary lighting, neutral upholstery, and minimal decorative accessories to highlight the geometric grain.

Dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth helps preserve the original polished finish. Applying a natural beeswax polish occasionally protects the veneer, while avoiding direct sunlight and moisture prevents heat rings and veneer lifting.
