The George II period, spanning from 1727 to 1760, marked a transition from the heavier walnut styles of the early 18th century towards the more refined, mahogany-dominated rococo and palladian influences.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised native timbers such as oak and pine for internal carcases, whilst applying expensive decorative veneers like walnut, burr walnut, and feather banding to external surfaces.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction methods, including hand-cut dovetails, traditional timber shrinkage, historical patination, and secondary woods appropriate to the geographic origin and period.

Placing a historical timber table against a neutral wall or within a contemporary living space adds textural contrast, serving as a functional surface that grounds minimalist or transitional decor schemes.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes or excessive moisture.
