This Edwardian nest of three tables is made from mahogany, amboyna, and satinwood in a warm brown colour palette. Each rectangular top displays a central oval amboyna burl panel framed by satinwood crossbanding, boxwood and ebony string inlay, and a raised moulded edge, supported by slender turned legs in a Regency style. The tables measure 71 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. Designed to slide together compactly when not in use, this traditional English country house set works well positioned at the end of a sofa or beside a living room armchair to hold drinks, books, or lamps. The graduated sizes allow each surface to serve independently as a lamp table, accent table, or occasional surface around a seating area.

Originating in the late eighteenth century and designed by cabinetmakers such as Thomas Sheraton, nests of tables were created as space-saving occasional furniture. They feature graduated sizes that store neatly underneath one another, providing extra surface area when entertaining guests.

High-quality period examples frequently feature primary woods like mahogany, rosewood, or satinwood. Decorative tops often incorporate exotic veneers such as amboyna burl, framed with boxwood stringing and satinwood crossbanding.

Authentic period nests display natural age-related shrinkage in the timber, hand-cut joinery, and thin hand-sawn veneers on soft timber bases. Look for wear along the side runners where the tables slide together over decades of use.

Arrange the tables partially unnested alongside an armchair or sofa to create tiered surfaces for books, lighting, and beverages. Alternatively, place the individual tables in different corners of a room as cohesive occasional surfaces when hosting.

Keep inlaid wooden furniture away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent the veneers from lifting or warping. Clean the surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically to nourish the timber.
