This Regency console table functions as a grand surface for an entryway or a principal reception room. The piece pairs a heavy white marble top with a gilded wood base finished in bright gold. Elaborate classical decoration covers the structure, including egg-and-dart moulding along the frieze edge and substantial acanthus leaf scroll legs with carved pedestal supports that bear the weight of the slab. Gilded mouldings and ornate foliate carving define the structural elements down to the feet. The large furniture item measures 94 cm high, 183 cm wide, and 70 cm deep. Placed beside the front door or in a hallway, the table creates a strong first impression while providing a wide stone shelf for lamps, ornaments, or everyday items.

FAQs

A Regency console table is a narrow side table designed to stand against a wall, popular during the early 19th century in Britain and characterised by Neoclassical design elements, gilded woodwork, and stone tops.

Regency gilt furniture typically utilised carved timber frames coated in gesso and finished with hand-applied gold leaf gilding, frequently topped with heavy imported marble slabs.

Authentic Regency pieces display architectural proportions, classical carving motifs such as acanthus leaves or monopodia supports, water gilding over gesso, and period hand-cut joinery on the structural frame.

Position the console table in an entrance hall or living room, balancing its ornate gilded carving with minimalist contemporary artwork or quiet ceramic vessel displays above.

Clean the marble surface using a soft cloth and pH-neutral cleaner, while dry dusting with a soft feather brush is recommended for delicate gilded areas to avoid rubbing off the gold leaf.
