A cellarette or wine cooler is a specialized lockable container used in the 18th and 19th centuries to store and chill wine bottles in the dining room before serving.

They were typically crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often featuring lead linings internally to hold ice and water, alongside brass fixtures and detailed carved wooden motifs.

Authenticity is determined by period-appropriate timber patination, traditional joinery techniques, original lead linings or partition compartments, and occasionally maker stamps or historical provenance.

Such pieces function effectively as statement occasional tables, side cabinets, or sculptural focal points within traditional or transitional living spaces and dining rooms.

Maintain timber surfaces by applying microcrystalline wax periodically, avoiding direct sunlight exposure, and keeping them away from extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent wood splitting.
