Yeats Country Antiques has dated this Sarcophagus Mahogany Wine Cooler to the 19th Century.
The moulded, panelled and crossbanded top with canted corners features a hinged lid which opens upwards to reveal a lined interior which houses a fitted section of eight compartments to store bottles. The simple frieze is raised over an elegantly tapering body with reeded panels to the central reserves flanked with beautiful fluted detail to the canted corners and is fitted with a brass escutcheon and key, supported on a stunningly detailed lion paw foot, finely carved in high relief.
