In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This pair of nineteenth-century French Neo-Classical cassolettes takes the form of metamorphic vessels mounted on circular onyx bases. The bodies combine gilt bronze with light blue, deep blue, and black champlevé enamel work displaying intricate tracery designs. Each piece incorporates ram head mounts, a shaped tripod frame with hoof feet, turned central supports, and stepped circular mouldings around the neck and base. Measuring 22.8 cm high, 8.2 cm wide, and 8.2 cm deep, these items serve as decorative mantelpiece ornaments. The domed lids reverse to function as candlesticks, offering practical adaptability for display in a formal reception room or library.

A cassolette is a decorative urn designed to diffuse perfumes or incense through perforated lids. Many 19th-century French examples are metamorphic, featuring reversible lids that transform into candle sockets when turned upside down.

These decorative items were typically crafted from gilt bronze, also known as ormolu, combined with champleve enamel where carved metal troughs are filled with vitreous enamel paste. The structures often rest on polished white marble or alabaster plinths.

Authentic 19th-century pieces exhibit crisp, hand-chased bronze detailing, mercury gilding with subtle wear on high points, and fine vitreous enamel work. Mechanical components such as threaded central rods and reversible nozzles should show signs of period hand-tooling.

A pair of cassolettes can be styled symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, marble console table, or dining sideboard. Their architectural silhouette and vivid enamel detailing provide contrasting colour and historical character within contemporary room schemes.

Gilt bronze and enamel should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent dirt buildup in carved crevices. Abrasive polishes and chemical cleaners must be avoided, as they can strip original gilding or damage the enamel finish.
