Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cassolettes originated in the eighteenth century as ornamental containers designed to burn incense or hold dried aromatics, frequently featuring removable or reversible lids. Popularised during the French Neoclassical and Empire periods, they evolved into decorative garnitures meant to adorn chimney pieces and sideboards.

Traditional cassolettes were crafted using carved marbles, porphyry, or alabaster paired with chased bronze mounts. The bronze components were typically gilded using mercury gilding (ormolu), creating a durable gold finish contrasting against stone bodies.

Authentic period examples feature hand-chased bronze detailing on masks and foliage, heavy cast components, and internal threaded rod assembly. Look for natural wear to the gilding on raised contact points and authentic mineral veining within the stone.

Cassolettes function effectively as symmetrical accents when styled in pairs on a mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard. Positioning them alongside linear contemporary artwork creates a balanced contrast between classical detailing and modern interiors.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth or soft bristle brush to clean intricate bronze castings. Avoid chemical polishes or water-based cleaners, as these can strip original mercury gilding or mark the marble surface.
