Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large French farmhouse dining table dates to 1900 and exemplifies classic French country design. Constructed from solid oak, the piece has been bleached to achieve a pale natural timber colour, highlighting the grain across the thick wooden plank top and the robust trestle base. Details include sturdy pedestal supports connected by a central stretcher secured with pegged joints, and softly rounded edges along the rectangular top. Measuring 290 cm long, 89.5 cm deep and 77 cm high, with a knee clearance of 70 cm, the table provides ample seating for family meals and gatherings. Suitable for a rustic kitchen, dining room or open-plan living space, it disassembles into sections for straightforward placement within a home.

FAQs

A French farmhouse dining table is traditionally crafted from native European hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood. These tables feature functional joinery, including trestle bases or straight tapered legs, designed to accommodate large gatherings and withstand heavy daily use.

These tables are primarily constructed using solid oak planks joined with mortise and tenon joints. The trestle design utilises heavy timber pedestals connected by a low stretcher, often secured with exposed wooden pegs or wedges.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-hewn timber marks, historical shrinkage along the plank joints, traditional pegged joinery without modern steel screws, and natural surface wear consistent with age and usage.

A large rustic oak table serves as a grounding focal point in open-plan dining rooms or kitchens. Pairing the textured timber surface with contemporary seating, modern lighting fixtures, or minimal metal accents creates an architectural contrast.

Maintain light oak by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear matte beeswax or specialist wood wax periodically. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and liquid spills to prevent staining or warping of the raw grain.
