Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Trestle tables are among the earliest forms of wooden dining furniture in Europe, originating in the Middle Ages. Designed for easy dismantling and flexibility, the style evolved into the permanent, heavy farmhouse dining table featured in rural homes throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Traditional farmhouse tables are constructed from solid native timbers such as oak, elm, or pine using mortise and tenon joinery. Stretcher bars secured with removable wooden pegs or wedge keys provide structural stability without requiring metal fasteners.

Authentic period examples display signs of historical wear, hand-planed top surfaces, pegged joints, and irregular timber dimensions. Natural shrinkage over time often creates slight gaps in plank tops and subtle ovaling of structural wooden pegs.

A bleached oak table pairs effectively with contemporary dining chairs crafted from steel, leather, or moulded polypropylene to create contrast. Neutral colour palettes, natural linen napery, and minimalist ceramic tableware highlight the light timber grain.

Clean the surface regularly using a soft, dry cloth and clear spillages immediately to prevent staining unsealed timber. Apply a matte Osmo oil or clear beeswax sparingly to protect the light timber finish without altering its natural pale colour.
