These late 19th century double saddlebags originate from South Persia and were woven by the nomadic Khamseh tribe. Constructed from wool and leather, the piece comprises two hand-woven wool panels joined by a leather centre section equipped with leather straps and metal buckles. The wool sections display deep red and navy tones featuring hand-knotted pile, geometric borders, and stylized bird motifs, whilst the central leather section exhibits an aged, weathered finish with visible wear. Measuring 36 cm by 77 cm, the object is designed for transporting smaller items. In a contemporary interior, this antique Khamseh tribal piece suits a gentleman's library, study or hallway. The item hangs vertically from a wooden rail, displaying both the upper and lower decorated compartments alongside the connecting leather panel. Collectors of Persian tribal textiles can place the saddlebags as a wall-mounted decorative display or keep them as a study piece to appreciate the historical nomadic craftsmanship, original bindings and patinated materials.

Khamseh saddlebags, traditionally known as khorjin, were crafted by the nomadic Khamseh Confederation in southwest Persia. These double bags were woven for functional transport of personal belongings across horses or camels, featuring distinct geometric and stylized avian patterns.

These saddlebags are constructed using hand-spun wool for the hand-knotted pile face and flatweave back, often utilizing natural vegetable dyes. Structural elements, joins, and fastening straps are frequently finished with hand-stitched leather or braided wool.

Authentic Khamseh pieces typically feature dark blue and rich red field colours, abstract bird motifs, geometric diamond medallions, and a soft, woollen warp and weft structure characteristic of South Persian nomadic weaving.

Miniature saddlebags can be mounted as framed wall art, hung flat as decorative wall hangings, or displayed across a bench or console table to add texture and historical interest to a space.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and damp conditions to prevent dye fading and leather degradation. Gently brush or use a low-suction vacuum nozzle to clean, and treat leather elements with appropriate conservation wax if required.
