Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This George II Irish mahogany kidney-shaped card table dates from the Regency period and exhibits a dark brown finish with a polished timber grain. The piece stands 71.1 cm high, measures 76.2 cm wide, and extends 40.6 cm deep. The construction comprises a solid wood fold-over top, a bow-fronted frieze incorporating a single central drawer with a cast brass drop handle, four cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, and unusual central rear legs operating on a gateleg action. The top surface displays characteristic variations in tone and light wear consistent with age. Placement suits an empty corner or hallway in an English country house interior, serving as a decorative display surface or a compact side table. The table integrates into traditional living rooms or libraries, offering a functional surface for daily use while maintaining period character.

FAQs

Originating in the mid-18th century, a George II card table is a folding table designed specifically for playing card and board games, characterised by cabriole legs and dense timber construction.

These tables were typically constructed from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, featuring brass hardware, gate-leg mechanisms, and hand-cut joinery.

Authentic George II pieces feature hand-carved cabriole legs, pad or claw-and-ball feet, hand-cut dovetail joints, and heavy, dark mahogany timber.

Positioned against a wall as a console table or placed in an entryway, these pieces serve as functional accent furniture alongside contemporary artwork and lighting.

Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources, clean it using a soft microfibre cloth, and apply a beeswax polish annually to protect the wood finish.
