Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian burr walnut table displays a large circular top with a book-matched veneer figure in a light warm brown colour, paired with a tilt-top mechanism that allows the top to be stored vertically. The base consists of a central pedestal supported by three cabriole legs with carved details at the feet and shoulders. The piece measures 74 cm high, 130 cm wide, and 130 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this table functions as a dining table for everyday meals or gatherings, and serves as an occasional table in a living room, library, or hallway when the surface is tilted upright. The timber grain and carved wooden supports introduce traditional English country house character to both period properties and modern interiors.

FAQs

A tilt-top loo table is a 19th-century circular or oval table originally designed for the popular Victorian card game loo. The top hinges vertically on a central pedestal base, allowing the table to be stored flat against a wall when not in use.

These tables feature high-grade burr walnut veneers applied over solid timber framing, such as mahogany or pine. The characteristic figure is created from abnormal wood growths on a walnut tree, set upon solid turned pedestals and carved tripod legs.

Authentic period examples feature original brass snap-latches or catch mechanisms beneath the tabletop, solid timber construction underneath veneer layers, period-appropriate joinery, and original brass castors on the feet.

A circular walnut table functions as a focal point in an entryway, dining space, or bay window. Positioning the piece alongside modern brass lighting or minimal seating creates a contrast between the figured wood grain and contemporary lines.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax twice yearly along the direction of the grain. Maintain a stable indoor environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lifting or fading.
