Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. This Georgian Worcester Porcelain trio from around 1780 includes a teacup, a coffee cup, and a saucer rendered in white, blue, and gold. The pieces show a fluted body, a neoclassical urn motif, beaded turquoise swags, and a cobalt and gold rim. The enamel is detailed with turquoise garlands draped through hanging gilt rings beneath a royal blue and gilt border, while each piece depicts a neoclassical urn painted in grisaille and light yellow in the manner of James Giles, alongside a crescent mark and gold leaf gilding. The teacup has a simple curved handle on the side. Today, this porcelain trio suits display on a sideboard top in a living room, dining room, or cabinet display within an English Country House setting. It functions well as a decorative tabletop piece for traditional interior schemes.

FAQs

During the late 18th century, English porcelain manufacturers including Worcester produced tea trios comprising a tea bowl or teacup, a taller coffee cup or coffee can, and a single shared saucer. This configuration catered to social rituals surrounding both tea and coffee consumption in Georgian households.

Worcester porcelain from the First Period and Flight Period utilised soft-paste porcelain bodies infused with soapstone from Cornwall, which prevented cracking when exposed to boiling water. The pieces were finished with hand-painted enamel decoration, overglaze details, and mercury gilding.

Authentic period examples frequently feature specific factory marks, such as the open crescent, square mark, or incised factory symbols on the underside. Additionally, inspecting the soft-paste body against a strong light source typically reveals a subtle greenish or yellowish translucency.

Antique porcelain trios serve as decorative focal points when displayed in glass-fronted cabinets, positioned on open shelving, or arranged on decorative trays atop sideboards. Their historic motifs and gilding offer structured visual contrast alongside contemporary furnishings.

Gilt soft-paste porcelain should be washed by hand using warm water and a neutral soap, avoiding abrasive pads or harsh chemical cleaners that strip gold leaf and enamel. Pieces must never be washed in automated dishwashers or left submerged in water.
