Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1860s:
Thick rouge marble top with moulded edge: French salon table work.
Ebonised fluted urn and paw feet: mid-nineteenth-century classical taste.
Veneer shrinkage along the base joins: natural movement of aged timber.
Sweeping scroll supports on a tripartite platform: popular under the French Second Empire.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Restoration centre table originates from 1860 and measures 78 cm high by 98 cm wide and 98 cm deep. The circular piece displays a polished red-and-white variegated marble top with a moulded edge set above a warm brown mahogany frieze. Three scroll-shaped supports and an ebonized reeded pedestal column rise from a platform base terminating in three dark ebonized carved paw feet. In a modern interior, the table serves as a functional centrepiece in an entrance hall, reception room or drawing room to display lamps, vases or decorative accessories. The compact footprint permits placement in central circulation areas or against paneled walls while providing a sturdy surface for everyday use.

FAQs

Originating predominantly in the 19th century, these tables feature thick circular tops crafted from veined marble resting upon substantial timber bases, designed to stand in the centre of a room or grand hall.

Construction relies on timber frames veneered with rich woods like flame mahogany or rosewood, crowned with polished natural marble slabs such as Rouge Royale, supported by carved pedestals or tripod legs.

Authentic examples exhibit hand-cut timber veneers, traditional joinery beneath the apron, natural wear to the base, and original heavy stone tops showing light surface age and hand-finished undersides.

Place the table in an entryway or central foyer as an architectural focal point, pairing the patterned stone and dark timber with minimalist ceramics, sculptural vases, or modern lighting.

Wipe the marble surface using a soft cloth and pH-neutral cleaner to prevent etching, while applying natural beeswax polish to the mahogany base periodically to maintain the wood surface.
